Welcome to Juza Waste Pickers Initiative (JWPI)

Juza Waste Pickers Initiative (JWPI) is a registered non-governmental organization in Tanzania with registration number 00NGO/R/3128. JWPI is committed to environmental sustainability, economic empowerment, and the fight against substance abuse in Tanzania. At JWPI, we believe that waste picking is not just about environmental conservation but also an opportunity for economic empowerment. By combining waste management efforts with rehabilitation and recovery support, we strive to create a cleaner and drug-free society in Tanzania.

Who are we?

Waste picking is an opportunity for income-generation youth to improve their livelihood and economic life; with the use of drugs, waste pickers’ health, safety and productivity are negatively affected. The founders of this organization are waste pickers members who are dedicated to supporting and coordinating other waste pickers for income generation; ensuring the availability of adequate treatment and recovery support services for drugs-related problems.

To become one of the leading frontiers of environmental cleanliness in Tanzania as well as supporting a drug-free society.

To create a conducive environment for our society by picking up recyclable wastes daily as well as supporting people who use drugs for treatment.
