Waste Pickers Programs

This program focuses on transforming the lives of waste pickers, particularly youth and women. We are focused on advocacy and policy development. We advocate for governments, policymakers, environmental stakeholders, private organizations, and development partners to recognize waste pickers as key players in waste management and environmental conservation. We push and advocate for laws and policies that protect the waste pickers rights. JWPI provides training & better equipment to support waste pickers work. We provide health insurance to waste pickers to improve their safety and well-being, ensuring that waste pickers receive essential healthcare services. We also act as a bridge to foster collaboration between the government, waste pickers, and stakeholders for cleaner and more sustainable cities. We advocate for comprehensive support systems that uplift waste pickers as key contributors to waste management, environmental protection and conservation.

Waste Management

We are engaged in recycling materials such as plastics, paper, and cardboard to promote a circular economy and improve the livelihoods of waste pickers. Recycling serves as a sustainable income-generating activity and a form of work therapy for those recovering from substance abuse. Additionally, JWPI provides training in waste management and capacity building for waste aggregators.

Drug dependency Recovery & Rehabilitation Support

We are committed to advocating for and supporting drug dependency recovery among waste pickers in Tanzania. Our comprehensive rehabilitation support program includes, behavior Change Programs that encourage healthier choices and self-improvement. Referrals to MAT (Medication-Assisted Therapy) Clinics, Linking waste pickers to professional medical support. Work Therapy, providing income-generating activities as part of rehabilitation. Drug Abuse Education & Awareness programs, educating waste pickers and communities on substance abuse risks and prevention strategies. Through advocacy, education, and recovery programs, we strive to ensure that waste pickers receive the treatment, care, and opportunities needed to lead healthy, productive lives.

Community Campaigns

The organization actively participates in various community-based campaigns, including environmental awareness campaigns like tree planting and community cleanups. These campaigns are used as tools to raise awareness about waste management and environmental conservation. We also run Anti-drug advocacy programs and community campaigns. Anti-drug campaigns to educate and prevent substance abuse.

International Waste Pickers Day

We hosts an annual event to honour waste pickers' contributions in Tanzania. This event fosters collaboration with government agencies, private sector partners, community organizations, and youth groups, ensuring recognition and support for waste pickers’ efforts and rights.
